The Ala Wai harbor is the largest harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. It connects Waikiki to the Ala Moana Area in the heart of Honolulu. The harbor is situated along the Ala Wai Canal which is the tributary waterway that flows through the harbor. In the Summer months there may be breaking waves on both sides of the harbor. There are many restaurants and amenities within walking distance including the Harbor Pub which is the local watering hole.

Ala Wai Harbor is a public harbor conveniently located in the heart of Waikiki. It is within walking distance of many hotels, beaches, shops, and restaurants. The harbor offers live-aboard, temporary, and permanent slips. Amenities include locked showers and restrooms, permitted parking, floating docks, and shore power electricity.

If you are temporarily mooring, you may live onboard your vessel. Your stay is however limited by the time limit of the harbor which is 120 days maximum. If you have a permanent slip you are only allowed to stay onboard 120 days per year.

For permanent tenants, an active waitlist exists to obtain a berth or slip. For temporary tenants- a mooring field exists inside the reef to the East of the harbor. Mooring balls are available by prearranging with the Harbor Master. A list of documents you will need to provide is below.
Private restrooms and showers available for a monthly rate accessed via keycard. There are 3 sets of private bathrooms and showers and 2 sets of public bathrooms.

6 Hour free public parking can be found near the Hilton Lagoon and the beach/ surf break. There are also some public stalls down the penninusula between the 600 and 700 rows of slips. Otherwise hourly parking is $1.00/hour for harbor users. This fee can be paid at the various parking terminals or via the app using the QR code available at the pay stations around the harbor.

In order to obtain a permanent slip, one must sign up for the waitlist, fill out the Mooring, Residency, and Waitlist Rules Acknowledgement documents and include payment of $15 for resident or $100 non-resident for the application, payable by Visa, Mastercard or Cash.
Also Include proof of residency documents, either all four pages of your most recent N11Hawaii Resident Income tax return or copy of post card for registered voters or certificate showing you are a registered voter. Tax return should have the SSNs, dollar amounts, and account information blacked out (redacted).
The waitlist varies by size. Slips under 35' are typically available or a short wait, while the medium size slips 35-55ft can take a few years. Catamaran or multihull slips could be 20 years or more.
