Anna Lieding

Anna Lieding was born and raised in Hana, Maui. After graduating from Brown University with a degree in Marine Science she returned home and worked on charter boats and as an underwater photographer for a humpback whale research program. Anna holds her USCG 100 ton captain’s license, and has been master of private and charter yachts in Florida, Washington, and Hawaii. Currently she is master and operations manager for a fleet of private charter vessels on Maui. On her days off Anna loves to go deep sea fishing, surf, dive, and compete in Hawaiian outrigger canoe races.

One of my favorite experiences happened while on night watch sailing a 60’ ketch about halfway between Maui and the Marquesas. A pod of dolphins came to bow ride and left streaks of bioluminescence in their wake while they torpedoed through the water. Watching that in the waters below and then laying back and looking up at an incredibly clear night sky above was a moment that will forever be imprinted in my memory.
